June 12, 2015

From May 29th to 31st, a three-day international symposium “Multifaceted Japan: Past, Present, and Future of Crossing Identities” was carried out at the Agora Global building.

The purpose of this symposium is to consider the globalization process which can be traced back to the Age of Discovery and continues to the modern age, especially focusing on Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries which were in the greater position in the process of globalization.
The symposium also aims to examine the process from multiple perspectives. It is hoped that by holding this symposium which fits the new millennium, language and culture from these countries will be promoted in Japan and cultural relations between Japan and other countries will deepen.

More than 30 leading specialists from around the world participated. Ambassadors from 24 countries attended the opening ceremony held on the 29th.

In the ceremony, there was an announcement of establishing “Mundus Latinus in Japan”, which is the educational and research network in Japan focusing on Spanish-Portuguese countries. In report sessions held on the 30th and 31st, a total of 500 participants attended and actively exchanged their ideas.
