Japan Consortium for Area Studies Annual Symposium Held

On November 1st, the Symposium of the Japan Consortium for Area Studies (JCAS) in 2015, “Challenging borders through area studies” took place at the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA).
JCAS is a form of organizational collaboration, consisting of research and education institutes which engage in international area studies and related studies. (http://www.jcas.jp/en/index.html).Two TUFS institutes, ILCAA and the Graduate School of Global Studies, are members of the organization. Specially, ILCAA is one of the managing members. ILCAA researcher Hidemitsu Kuroki took the lead in a symposium on border and trans-border issues around the world in which area studies researchers took part and had a lively discussion.
More than 90 participants including the public, undergraduates, and graduates, filled the Large Conference Room. The participants intently listened to the discussion.
