October 20, 2015

In order to promote the internationalization of Japan Studies as part of the Program to Enhance the Functions of National Universities, TUFS has started its invitation fellowship program of the ‘Consortium for Asian and African Studies (CAAS) Unit’.
CAAS is comprised of seven world-leading higher education institutions for Asian and African studies, and by inviting prominent researchers in Japan Studies from this consortium, CAAS Unit provides new, productive research environment for domestic and foreign researchers.

Joining CAAS Unit from October 1 are Dr. David W. Hughes (Ethnomusicology) and Dr. Iris Haukamp (Film Studies) from the School of Asian and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, one of the CAAS member institutions. In a meeting on October 13, President Tateishi welcomed both scholars to TUFS.

Through collaborative research among domestic and international researchers, CAAS Unit will continue building an international network for Japan Studies and consolidate its central role.
