[Message from TUFS President] To all students as the fall semester comes to an end
January 9, 2025
Dear students,
Happy belated New Year! Things must be hectic with the end of the fall quarter just around the corner, but please do your best.
1. Congratulations on the completion of your thesis and master's thesis
...but the deadline for submitting your graduation thesis is 15:59 on Friday.. If you haven't submitted your thesis yet, don’t worry about fixing the small details (but try your best). Just make sure to submit it! Those of you who have already submitted your theses should realize the four, five, or six years of study you have completed at this university. As I wrote last year, you should print and save your thesis. Each of your theses is a very fine piece of work. I hope that you will keep them as something "tangible" forever. It will be a precious memory of your university life.
2. Fall semester questionnaire request
This is our annual survey, with some new questions, due January 23. It will only take a couple of minutes to answer. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

3. Dead trees will be cut down
During the winter quarter, trees that are dead or very weak on the premises will be cut down. The number of trees reaches 27 (!). ... There has been damage and even casualties due to fallen trees in various areas, so we have no choice but to cut down the trees in danger of falling. This weekend, we will start cutting down three large sakura trees by the parking lot (Asahimachi-dori side). It is very sad to see them away, but we have no choice. We will plant new trees to make up for the loss.
4. Abandoned bicycles will be removed
For a long time abandoned bicycles have been left untouched, but bicycles without stickers will be removed during the winter quarter. As announced by the Student Affairs Division, those who commute to school by bicycle should register at the Student Affairs Division and get a sticker. It is still not too late. Otherwise, the bicycles without the stickers will be put away!
5. Shortly, students will be leaving for their winter quarter short visits!
This year, 29 will go to Canada, 20 each to Thailand and India, 17 to Ireland, 15 to South Korea, 14 to the U.S., 13 to Vietnam, 12 to Taiwan, 9 each to Jordan, France, and New Zealand, 8 each to China, Egypt and Italy, 7 to Spain, 6 each to the Philippines and Australia, 5 to Austria, 4 each to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, 3 each to Germany, Switzerland, Uzbekistan and England, and 1 to Poland. The largest number, 178, are first-year students. I hope you all make many friends as well as polish the language and English you have learned during the year. I hope this will be an SV that leads to the long term.
6. Message to all
I will retire in March after six years in office. This will probably be the last message as the President. Thank you all very much. I was most happy when you called out to me while walking around the Research and Lecture Building or when I was near the TUFS Monument. During my tenure as president, I met many of your seniors who have graduated and are now active in society, both in Japan and around the world. How flexible and tough they all are. That is what I believe are the TUFS students. All of you will soon become one of them and make your way in the world. The world continues to face many challenges, but I hope you will utilize your flexibility to change the world.
Please take care!
However, I still have three months to go (laughs). If you see me around, just call on me. Those graduating, see you at the graduation ceremony.
