10th Annual American Football Regular-Season Game Held with ICU
June 8, 2022
On Sunday, June 5, 2022, as part of the student exchange program under a comprehensive agreement with International Christian University (ICU), a regular season American football game was held between the American football clubs of the two universities (TUFS: Phantoms, ICU: Apostles). This was the first time in three years that the game was held after being cancelled last year and the year before due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In previous years, this regular season game has been held as an exchange game between the two universities, but this year, as the 10th anniversary year, the game was held as an open game at the Amino Vital Field with the cooperation of the KANTOH COLLEGIATE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION and other organizations.
When the game kicked off at 9:30 a.m., the two schools’ cheerleading squads, the RAMS of TUFS and the Angels of ICU, cheered on the teams as they played a heated game with TUFS President Kayoko Hayashi and ICU President Shoichiro Iwakiri watching. The result was a 7-12 win for the ICU Apostles, with TUFS' record so far this season at 2-8.
Although this was a disappointing result for the TUFS Phantoms, they will use the experience they gained this time to aim for victory next year.
