TUFS student wins All-Japan Student German Presentation Contest

December 16, 2024

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, Mr. Mizukami Yuki, a fourth-year student in the School of International and Area Studies, Central Europe Area Studies major, won first place at the 3rd All-Japan Student German Presentation Contest (hosted by Kyoto University of Foreign Studies) held at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies.

This contest, which began in 2022 as the successor to the 20th annual speech contest in 2019, aims to encourage the study of German and promote intercultural exchange. Students from all over Japan who are studying German come together to express their opinions, arguments and thoughts in German. This year, the third time the competition has been held, 12 students who had passed the preliminary screening took part in the final. Mizukami gave a presentation entitled “The Implication of Climate Change in Switzerland and its Impact on Tourism”, and won the competition.

Comment from Mr. Mizukami

I gave a presentation on the topic of “The Implication of Climate Change in Switzerland and its Impact on Tourism”. I wanted to incorporate my own experiences of studying abroad at the University of Zurich as a way of grasping the climate change that is occurring on a global scale in a concrete way, and I wanted to put together my own presentation. This was the reason I decided to enter the competition. I was able to participate in this competition and win first place thanks to the support of the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, which provided me with the opportunity to study abroad, as well as the German department teachers, including Professor HENDRICKS, who have been teaching me since my first year, and my family and friends, who have always supported me. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude.
