October 24, 2019

On Sunday the 18th of August, the Preparatory School for Chinese Students to Japan in Jilin Province’s Changchun City, to which TUFS has been sending Japanese language teachers for 40 years, held a ceremony on the school grounds for its 40th Anniversary. TUFS Secretary-General YAMADA Soichiro, Professor MURAO Seiichi (Head of the Japanese Language Center for International Students) and Professor SUGANAGA Rie, attended on behalf of TUFS alongside 10 faculty members who have previously taught at the preparatory school. The ceremony began with speeches from the Vice Governor of Jilin and the Senior Vice President of MEXT, Ms. Ukishima, who were both in attendance. This was then followed by a speech from Secretary-General Yamada on behalf of TUFS.

The Preparatory School for Chinese Students to Japan is an important educational institution that has played a part in China-Japan cultural relations. It was established inside of Jilin Normal University (now Northeast Normal University) based on the 1979 Japan-China Cultural Exchange Agreement.

Answering the call of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (now the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), TUFS has been sending Japanese language teachers from the TUFS Japanese Language School (now the Japanese Language Center for International Students) for the past 40 years, and has contributed to the development of one-year Japanese education that prepares students with enough proficiency to understand undergraduate and postgraduate-level lectures in Japanese. For this, TUFS was awarded with a “Japan Special Contribution Award” at the ceremony.
