2019 Campus-Wide Emergency Drill Held at TUFS
December 5, 2019
On Wednesday the 27th of November, the 2019 Campus-Wide Emergency Drill was held for all TUFS students and faculty. This year’s drill featured a shakeout drill*, a welfare communications drill and training for the staff in charge of establishing a disaster response headquarters.
As the emergency drill announcement was played throughout the campus, Vice President IMAI Akio, head of the Disaster Task Force, and other members of said task force gathered at the disaster response headquarters. Under the orders of the head of the task force, each response team (general team, facility team, evacuation guide team, first aid team) carried out an initial response drill and reported on the present situation. After this, members of the task force exchanged opinions on matters such as emergency provisions, disaster response and potentially dangerous spots, and decided what needs to be done from here on out.
Here at TUFS we have created a "TUFS Earthquake Response Manual" (finalized on September 13, 2016), and we regularly carry out drills to simulate responses to large-scale disasters according to this manual.
*The Shakeout earthquake drill is an earthquake drill that originated in the United States in 2008, and has recently been receiving attention in Japan as well. The drill, which is held in workplaces, schools and public spaces, is conducted for one minute and has three stages: drop, cover, and hold on.
