The 13th Annual Consortium for Asian and African Studies Symposium (CAAS)
November 17, 2023
The 13th Annual Consortium for Asian and African Studies Symposium (CAAS), an international consortium consisting of seven world-leading institutions in Asian and African studies, including TUFS, was held on November 9 and 10, 2023, at TUFS. This symposium was a follow-up to the 12th symposium held last year by Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and is held annually by CAAS member institutions in rotation. It was the first time the symposium was held at the TUFS since the 7th Symposium in 2016, and the first time it was held face-to-face in four years due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Under the theme of "Multiculturalism Revisited," this year's symposium featured presentations by around 30 researchers from CAAS member institutions, including the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (France), Shanghai University of Foreign Studies, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, University of London School of Oriental and African Studies, Columbia University, and TUFS. From TUFS, three faculty members and 10 young researchers gave presentations. For the young researchers who participated in the symposium, it was a great experience to present their research at an international symposium and a valuable opportunity to exchange research with researchers who are conducting cutting-edge research around the world and young researchers from other countries.
The next symposium is scheduled to be held at Columbia University (USA).
