End of the first half of the Southern African Ambassadors Relay Lecture Botswana / Congo / Madagascar / Lesotho / Namibia

This relay lecture has been held every Wednesday during the second period of the fall semester as a required course for first-year students majoring in African Studies in the School of International and Area Studies. To date, lecturers from the embassies of six countries have given lectures. Here is the report on five lectures held from October 18, 2023 (Wed.) to November 29, 2023 (Wed.).

2nd Lecture, October 18 (Wednesday): Mr. Daniel Kgasa, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Republic of Botswana
3rd Lecture, October 25 (Wednesday): Mr. Patrick Shongo Wa Shongo, Diplomat, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
5th Lecture, November 8 (Wednesday): Ms. Harisoa Veronique Totozafy, Counsellor in charge of Economic Affairs, Embassy of the Republic of Madagascar
6th Lecture, November 15 (Wednesday): Ms. Mamasupha Sole, Counsellor, Kingdom of Lesotho
7th Lecture, November 29 (Wednesday): Mrs. Martha Kanu, Deputy Ambassador (Second Secretary), Republic of Namibia.

The lecturers used easy-to-understand English to introduce the nature and geography of their respective countries, their political movements from independence as sovereign states to the present, economic and industrial trends, and cooperative relations with Japan. Based on their prior learning about the individual countries, the students asked in-depth questions about environmental, regional, and developmental issues, and enjoyed a lively exchange with the diplomats.

Thanks to the kindness of the SADC Embassy, the relay lectures, which have been held since 2012, are being held again this year. There are only five lectures left this year, and they will be held on Wednesdays during the 2nd period of the fall semester.
