Celebrating the Opening of the Japan Studies Office at Rio de Janeiro State University
March 26, 2024
Rio de Janeiro State University in Brazil, a partner university of TUFS, has opened a Japan Studies Office, and TUFS President Kayoko Hayashi participated in the opening ceremony on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, with a video message.
The opening was made possible through the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Grassroots Cultural Grant Aid to the Federative Republic of Brazil. The Japan Studies Office is equipped with state-of-the-art telecommunications facilities, and it is expected that research exchanges with Japan will be fast and active in the future, and that the Japanese language and Japan Studies will be increasingly promoted in Brazil.
TUFS established the Global Japan Office at the State University of Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and its coordinator, Mr. Leonardo Brescia, has made significant contributions to the application for the establishment of the Japan Studies Office, and also cooperated in providing equipment.
This year marks the 24th year since the signing of an agreement on inter-university exchange with Rio de Janeiro State University. During this time, countless students have participated in the student exchange program, becoming bridges between Japan and Brazil. In addition, we are currently conducting an annual international joint education program by delivering classes about the Portuguese language and the literature and culture of Portuguese-speaking countries. Based on the newly opened Japan Studies Office, which has a well-equipped communication environment, we aim to further strengthen the ties between the two universities by further enhancing collaboration in joint education and promoting joint research as well.
