February 28, 2025
On Thursday, February 27, 2025, TUFS concluded a memorandum of understanding for exchange and cooperation with the aim of improving educational activities with Musashino-gakuen Elementary School (Fuchu City, Tokyo). The agreement will be in effect for three years from April 2025.
The principal of Musashino-gakuen Elementary School, Mr. Yosuke Aoki, and the vice principal, Ms. Miwako Ouchi, visited TUFS, and met with President Kayoko Hayashi, Executive Director, Mr. Takahiro Kinoshita, and Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa Associate Professor Wakana Shiino.
At the meeting, after an overview of TUFS, both parties expressed their desire to implement projects that would allow children and international students from both schools, who come from diverse cultural backgrounds, to interact with each other in a fun way.
Musashino-gakuen Elementary School is a private elementary school within walking distance of TUFS. In recent years, TUFS has been working to promote exchange with the school, including holding multicultural understanding workshops for elementary school students at the TUFS Field Science Commons (TUFiSCo).
Through signing this memorandum, TUFS plans to further promote the planning of events for Musashino-gakuen Elementary School students and events for parents and children to gather together.
The Field Science Commons (TUFiSCo) is an organization that supports collaborative research both within and outside the university as the core of research at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. In particular, it places importance on research that involves visiting and observing people's various activities, or fieldwork. One of its main activities is “co-creation with society”, and it is considering new forms of research through dialogue and collaboration, introducing the results of field research to the local community.
