On-Campus Program

To cultivate the ability to synthesize and integrate the knowledge of different major fields of study and to derive new ideas from them, the University offers a systematic interdisciplinary program that consists of four areas: (Trans-Pacific Studies[TPS1]) Contemporary Asia-Pacific, (TPS2) Multicultural Asia-Pacific, (TPS3) Sustainability Studies, and (TPS4) Art Studies.
Each course is offered as a regular course by the University with credits awarded for partner universities overseas and runs during the period from April to mid-July when students from the U.S. and the Philippines are enrolled at TUFS. Students from Japan, the U.S., and the Philippines, who are the primary targets of this program, have to take at least one course in each of the four areas (TPS1 to TPS4).

TPS1
Contemporary Asia-Pacific

Courses are offered on subjects such as political science, international relations, history, and area studies to provide leads for observing and examining the current situation of the Asia-Pacific region from multiple perspectives and angles based on the history of the region.

TPS2
Multicultural Asia-Pacific

Courses are offered based on academic research in areas such as sociology, tourism, or linguistics to observe and examine the current situation in the Asia-Pacific region, where cultural diversity is increasing in particular due to the movement of people.

TPS3
Sustainability Studies

As the burden on the global environment due to human activities continues to increase, GX perspectives and knowledge are indispensable for envisioning a sustainable future. In addition, the role of DX as a means to realize a sustainable society is increasingly in focus. This area is being established with the support of our collaboration partner university, the University of Electro-Communications, because a certain understanding of GX and DX is required to envision a sustainable future, regardless of the major field of study.

TPS4
Art Studies

Analysis of various artistic works such as literature, films, and music contributes to the development and expansion of imagination and creativity, which are essential for overcoming the boundaries between different major fields of study and for flexibly envisioning the future.
