[Call for participation] IAfP Joint International Conference 2023: Pathways to Sustainable Development in Africa and Japan (21st Sep 2023)
On September 21, 2023, African Studies Center-TUFS and the “Inter-University Exchange Project(Africa)-TUFS(IAfP)” will host the “IAfP Joint International Conference 2023: Pathways to Sustainable Development in Africa and Japan”.
The conference will have five sessions where young researchers from Japan and Africa will present their research.

?Purpose of the Conference |
Today, sustainable development is a common challenge and perhaps an opportunity for academia. As an inter-disciplinary approach is strongly required to tackle the issues, connectivity and networking among scholars have been rapidly developed across different countries and various disciplines. Extending the network enables us to acquire new knowledge. The IAfP Joint International Conference aims at connecting young scholars in different institutions of higher education in Africa and Japan for the promotion of mutual learning. The conference will provide an exciting opportunity to strengthen personal as well as institutional networks. This time, we invite graduate students or early-career researchers in the humanities and social sciences that seeks to connect topics related to sustainable development in Japan and Africa.

IAfP Joint International Conference 2023 was held in an online format on September 21, 2023 as planned. There were? 77 participants from? 9 countries.
Starting with the first words of Dr.Kithinji, undergraduate and graduate students from African countries and Japan presented their research in accordance with the theme of each session. In each session, following the presentation of their research, African researchers from African countries or Japan made comments, followed by a discussion time. In addition to the lively oral discussions, there was also a lively exchange of comments and opinions via a Zoom chat box that took advantage of the online benefits. After the general discussion, the session was closed due to Prof.Takeuchi’s closing remarks.
It resulted to be an precious opportunity for young researchers in the humanities and social sciences working in African countries and Japan to learn from each other and build a network through research presentations and discussions.
