Overview
The African Studies Center at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (ASC-TUFS) was established in April 2017 as a research hub for the study of various issues in contemporary Africa, based on the accumulation of African studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) over the years.
ASC-TUFS holds many seminars and symposia both in Japan and abroad, and publishes and disseminates the findings of these widely to African studies-related institutions. It also promotes research and educational activities related to contemporary Africa, building networks by inviting African researchers and international students, and in collaboration with African research institutions in Japan and abroad.
The results of our research, education, and network building are returned to society by developing human resources capable of dealing with various problems in contemporary Africa, and by providing a wide range of information to organizations that share our interests. At the same time, ASC-TUFS disseminates brief Japanese reports on trends in contemporary Africa through its website and social networking services, thereby providing information on Africa to the general public and raising their interest in the region.
