Research Interest | My research delves into the multifaceted relationship between urban development and marine ecosystems, particularly in the context of African coastal and port cities. Taking a more interdisciplinary approach, I blend principles of urban planning, marine science, and environmental engineering to address the complexities within the man-nature system of coastal populations, including settlements, marine ecoystems and port cities. I am intrigued by the complex yet interesting land and marine environment, socio-economic and ecological interactions shaping these unique port-centric urban spaces, especially under the pressure of rapid urbanisation and climate change vulnerabilities. I explore how these coastal urban spaces especially in the African context, are planned and managed. In addition, a key aspect of my work lies in how geoinformation science and earth-observation techniques can yield sustainable data-driven innovative solutions to support holistic land and sea spatial planning and management of resilient and sustainable coastal landscapes. |
