Application for Tuition Exemption

Please carefully check the following information before applying for tuition fee exemption and deferment of tuition fee collection.

Please check the list below for the current tuition support programs. Even if these programs are currently being offered, it may not necessarily continue to be offered after the next semester due to budget constraints or other reasons.

TUFS Study Support Program for Graduate School

(Graduate students)

Graduate students with outstanding grades

*Only those who are eligible will be contacted by the Student Affairs Division. The timing of contact differs depending on the time of admission or advancement to higher education.

*Selection is made in accordance with the handling guidelines. We do not accept any inquiries about the selection process.

The Student Affairs Division will inform you of the procedure in 「学務情報システム(gakumujyoho-system)」 every semester. Please follow the procedures accordingly.

*Those eligible for this program do not need to complete the primary application form.

Unavoidable Circumstances

(anyone if applicable)

Those whose financial supporter died during the semester prior to the semester for which they are applying (one year prior to enrollment for new students).

Those whose financial supporter or the applicant themselves were affected by a disaster during the semester prior to the semester for which they are applying (one year prior to enrollment for new students).

An application must be submitted on the primary application form within the application period. (In the primary application, select “unavoidable circumstances.”)

Documents required for the secondary application will be sent to the primary applicant.


Transitional measures for undergraduate students

Students who enrolled before 2022 and have difficulty paying tuition fees for financial reasons.

*Students who have exceeded their years of study are not eligible to apply. (However, one year in excess is allowed for students enrolling before 2019.) Note that the period of absence from school is not counted as the period of enrollment.

An application must be submitted on the primary application form within the application period. (In the primary application, select “economic reasons.”)

Documents required for the secondary application will be sent to the primary applicant.


Transitional measures for graduate students

Students enrolled before the 2020 academic year and who have difficulty paying tuition fees for financial reasons.

*Students who have exceeded their period of study by more than two years are not eligible to apply.

An application must be submitted on the primary application form within the application period. (In the primary application, select “economic reasons.”)

Documents required for the secondary application will be sent to the primary applicant.


*The following are programs that no longer accept new applications.
Sudden change in household finances due to coronavirus

Students whose household income has been cut in half due to the coronavirus pandemic or those receiving public assistance related to coronavirus.

*You can apply only if you are currently receiving assistance under this program and your household's financial situation does not continue to improve.

An application must be submitted on the primary application form within the application period. (In the primary application, select “Sudden change in household finances due to coronavirus.”)

Documents required for the secondary application will be sent to the primary applicant.

*If you have received support under this program in the past but have been disqualified from the program at least once after the first half of 2024 academic year, you are not eligible to apply for this program again.
Tuition Fee Exemption (Deferment) Primary Application Form

Please apply during the application period below for tuition fee exemption that must be applied for through the primary application form. You can also apply for tuition fee deferment through same form.

Spring and Summer Quarters : March 20 to April 7

Fall and Winter Quarters : September 20 to October 7

*Student ID is required. New students must apply after enrollment.

*Applications submitted outside of the period will not be accepted.

* After you answer the form, your response will be sent to your registered e-mail address, so please check it. If you do not receive an e-mail, your application may not have been properly accepted. Please contact the Student Affairs Division ( gakusei-kakari@tufs.ac.jp ).

*Please keep the email confirming your response – do not delete it.

【About the secondary application】

Documents required for the secondary application will be sent to the primary applicant in 「学務情報システム(gakumujyoho-system)」 .

There is no second application for students who have requested tuition deferment.
